There Because They Care

With the highest standard of care available in an ambulance, the El Campo EMS Department can quickly stabilize patients following a motor vehicle crash, work or home injury, heart attack, stroke or illness. The department also coordinates with helicopter ambulance services like Houston's Memorial Hermann Hospital for the fastest possible transport to a major trauma center. It's about the "Golden Hour" - that 60 minute interval between incident and treatment - where lives are either saved or lost. And the El Campo EMS paramedics don't like to lose. Their motto: "We're There Because We Care."
El Campo Memorial Hospital is a hometown care facility, but still offers an emergency room for those injuries and illnesses that just don't fit into the appointment schedules at the Mid Coast Medical Center or the South Texas Medical Clinic. When the hospital faced the possibility of shut down in 1979 and again in the 1990s, the citizens of the town rallied to save their health care facility - first with enough funding to build the current facility and then with the creation of the West Wharton County Hospital District to provide tax funding to support the facility. Wharton County also offers residents regional care at Gulf Coast Medical Center in the nearby city of Wharton.
