City parks offer outdoor fun Tourists and residents alike can enjoy one of the many city parks El Campo has to offer. Whether visiting El Campo or living here, everyone can find plenty to do at one of the city's several parks. Friendship Park - located on North Wharton Street, covers more than 26 acres. This area includes four soccer fields, a playground area, two covered pavilions which can be rented, restrooms, covered sitting areas with barbecue pits, eight tennis courts, a football field, two volleyball courts and a lighted walking track almost a mile long. Rotary Park - located off of East Jackson Street, has a half-mile lighted walking park. Placed strategically along the track are fitness stations. This park also offers a playground area with a pavilion and restrooms, two lighted 300-foot softball fields, two sand volleyball courts, a press box with concession area and restrooms. Willie Bell Park - located on 9 acres off of Second Street, it is named for one of El Campo's legendary baseball heroes who played in the Negro Leagues, primarily for the Kansas City Monarchs. The grounds consist of three baseball practice fields, restrooms, a covered pavilion, volleyball court, basketball court with four baskets, 12 sitting areas and a playground. Evans Park - Named after Mrs. J.E. Evans, who gained the city's permission to beautify the area in the early 1920s, it features a gazebo pavilion, park benches, a small grandstand and fountain. It is located downtown. Alamo Park - Located in the heart of downtown, it covers almost 2 acres with indooroutdoor areas, a covered pavilion, playground and concession areas and restrooms. Delta Street Park - A little over 3 1/2 acres, it's part of the El Campo Housing Authority. This neighborhood park includes two uncovered basketball courts and a baseball practice field. |
